R3+ Performance Package for Mercedes-AMG S 63: ECU Upgrade (HHT), Stage 2 Turbo Upgrade, Downpipes, TCU, CPC, Fuel Management System, BOV, EVM, BMC Air Filters
Description
The Mercedes W222 - S 63 AMG comes with the newest engine fully developed by AMG, the company’s Affalterbach based performance division and long fabled engine builder. The result is nothing short of spectacular and the 4.0L V8 BiTurbo engine is an incredible platform to build performance upon.
RENNtech’s R1, R2, R3, and R3+ are vehicle specific performance packages, engineered to increase vehicle power output while ensuring all upgrades work in sync, resulting in optimal overall performance.
Increasing performance in stages offers a clear path toward the desired development goal or stage. Starting at R1, moving forward is easy and gives owners the ability to evaluate the impact of each level of modification through the stages. Owners can also plan and budget for additional modifications, making the ultimate build more affordable in the long run.

The R3+ upgrade features RENNtech’s Stage II turbochargers with lightweight forged billet turbo wheels with larger impellers (inlet side) and an increase in the turbine trim (exhaust side). The combination of high quality, lightweight components compensate for turbo lag despite being a functionally larger turbo. The cartridge supporting shaft is both larger and stronger, designed to handle the larger wheel and additional power, which is then fine balanced as a complete assembly to safely allow for these increases. The impeller and turbine housings are then precision machined and flow tested in-house to fit the larger internal cartridge. The result is nothing short of spectacular with turbos capable of safely creating up to 1017 HP and 873 LB-FT of torque.
Through extensive dyno and road testing, RENNtech’s engineers were able to significantly increase the area under the curve, especially within the important RPM range between 5,500 and 7,000 RPM delivering peak gains of +336 HP and +173 LB-FT without sacrificing traction and drivability in the lower RPM range.
More power is not the only performance benefit. The RENNtech Stage II turbos spool quicker, offer a more responsive throttle and immediate power delivery thanks to a reduction in exhaust back pressure, rolling resistance, higher RPM's and a lighter rotating mass. This is more than just an OEM turbocharger with machined internals; but a dramatically larger, more powerful set of turbochargers that blows away anything else on the market!
What is included in the R3+ package:
- ECU Upgrade: Our proprietary tuning module stores both the RENNtech tuned file and your vehicles stock file. The module plugs directly into the OBD2 port and delivers the file you choose directly to the ECU.
- Stage II Turbo Upgrade: RENNtech lightweight forged billet turbo wheel features a larger-than stock impeller (inlet side) and an increase in the turbine trim (exhaust side). This isn’t just an OEM turbo charger with machined internals; but a dramatically larger, more powerful turbocharger that blows away anything else on the market.
- Stainless Steel Downpipes: Made out of from 304 High-Strength Stainless Steel and are equipped with 200 Cell Sport Catalytic Converters downpipes improve performance, reduce back pressure, increase initial turbo spooling and enhance sound output.
- TCU Upgrade: TCU upgrade elivers faster acceleration by matching the power output of our ECU and Turbo upgrades with increased Clutch Torque Limits, Clutch Pressure, and faster shift times.
- CPC Upgrade: The Powertrain Control Unit (CPC) upgrade increases torque limits and allows the engine to operate without the restrictions set by the stock/factory CPC unit.
- Fuel Management System: Increased flow and pressure to meet the demand of upgraded performance parts including Turbos and ECU.
- BMC Air Filters: BMC air filters are designed to last longer and create more power than the OEM paper filters.
- Blow Off Valves: Designed as a quick bolt-in solution which are intended to release excessive pressure in high boost occasions.
- Exhaust Valve Module: The EVM allows you to fully open the exhaust valves of the AMG Sport Exhaust, giving you complete control over the exhaust sound regardless of speed, RPM or driving mode.
Key Features:
- Larger Lightweight forged billet inducer and exducer wheels
- Cartridge shaft is larger and stronger to support larger wheel
- Entire cartridge is fine balanced as an assembly
- Less rolling resistance offers quicker spooling
- Virtually no lag with impressive throttle response
- Precision machined impeller and turbine housings
- Up to 1,017 HP and 871 LB-FT @ crank with 100 Octane Fuel
- Up to 965 HP and 817 LB-FT @ crank with 93 Octane Fuel
The R3+ Performance Package was developed and tested running on standard 93 octane gas and 100 octane race fuel.
Notes:
- We have found the M177 engine stock performance numbers vary from the baseline figures claimed by Mercedes-Benz. We typically see higher baseline numbers than claimed by the factory.
- Power gains are calculated based on stock numbers measured by RENNtech. Crank Performance Numbers are calculated with a 16% Drivetrain loss on AWD vehicles.
- Numbers published by MBUSA are an average over a 750 rpm range for HP and a 2,000rpm range for TQ. Power gains are calculated based on the peak stock performance measured by RENNtech.
- Our numbers will be dependent on conditions and fuel quality. 93+ Octane gasoline is mandatory with this Performance Upgrade.
- States known for poor fuel quality have to be supplied with a lower power setup. Please call for details and Race fuel options +1-561-845-7888.
Performance Numbers Overview
AMG S 63 | W222 | M177 | 4.0L V8 BiTurbo Stock Performance (at crank):
- Rated by Mercedes-Benz (avg.): 630 HP @ 5,500-6,500 rpm; 664 LB-FT @ 2,500-4,500 rpm
- Dyno measured by RENNtech (peak): 681 HP @ 6,250 rpm; 736 LB-FT @ 3,450 rpm
- Note: Mercedes M177 engine performance when measured on the dyno obtains higher power numbers than rated from factory. Performance numbers published by MBUSA are a calculated average within a specific rpm range, which obviously result in lower power numbers than at the peak. HP and TQ gains calculated by RENNtech are always based on peak stock results measured by RENNtech and upgraded peak results measured by RENNtech.
- For transparency and comparability, RENNtech published the average stock power during the rpm range set by MBUSA and the peak stock performance
AMG S 63 | W222 | M177 | 4.0L V8 BiTurbo Modified Performance (at crank):
- Rated by RENNtech (peak @crank): 1,017 HP @ 6,550rpm; 871 LB-FT @ 5,450 rpm
- Rated by RENNtech (peak @wheel): 854 whp @ 6,550rpm; 732 wtq @ 5,450 rpm
- Crank Performance Numbers are calculated with a 16% Drivetrain loss for all wheel drive vehicles.
